GOAL OF PENETRANT INSPECTION
Dye penetrant inspection is a non-destructive testing technique that is used to detect defects open to the surface of materials, in certain conditions.
This testing technique is considered a very refined extension of visual examination and, in certain cases, they may be considered complementary.
SCOPE
This non-destructive inspection can be performed on a wide range of materials:
- Metals
- Glass
- Ceramics
- Plastics
as long as they are not porous or their surface is not too rough.
This examination can be implemented on all parts, regardless of shape, in their totality or locally.
This examination can be used in all life stages of a part:
- Before manufacturing
- During manufacturing
- After manufacturing
- In service, in some cases
In many fields:
- Boilermaking
- Foundry
- Forging
Regardless of the part’s intended use:
- Pressure equipment
- Offshore
- Aviation
- Aerospace
- Nuclear
Dye penetrant inspection can be used both on the worksite and in the factory. It is an inspection process that can be automated.
